WEST PALM BEACH -- Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis accused journalists Thursday of being obsessed with the attack on the US Capitol on January 6.

The Republican governor stated that "This is their Christmas, January 6", specifically referring to media outlets based in Washington or New York. "They will take this and milk it for whatever they can to smear any person who has ever supported Donald Trump."

DeSantis was speaking at a conference on COVID-19 testing, about 10 miles from the private Mar-a-Lago club of former President Donald Trump. Insider asked DeSantis about the Capitol attack and if he would speak to Trump on Thursday. DeSantis responded by saying that comparing it to the terrorist attack of September 11, 2001 was an "insult" for first responders.

He also accused the media of not covering the 2017 shooting at a congressional ball practice outside Washington DC, where "a Bernie Sanders guy" wounded House Majority Whip Steve Scalise as well as several other victims.

He said, "That was like an one-day story, two-day story." "That was not something the Capitol-based press wanted talk about. Why? It completely undercuts their preferred narratives."
He said, "January 6 allows them create narratives negative about people who supported Donald Trump." DeSantis was a member of the House from January 2013 through September 2017, and he played in the year-end baseball game, which received extensive media coverage.

DeSantis is running for re-election 2022. He is seen as a front-runner if he makes a 2024 Republican presidential run. His press conference was to discuss how the state would distribute COVID-19 testing at long-term care facilities in a West Palm Beach rehabilitation center.

DeSantis stated that Florida voters are more concerned about gas prices, inflation and education than crime.

He said, "There is an obsession about this among the DC New York journalist class, which I believe it's because they can spin a narrative they want to spin."

DeSantis claimed that the national media contributed to "damaged trust" in institutions through their coverage on whether Trump campaign colluded or not with Russia to rig 2016's election against Hillary Clinton.

DeSantis stated that January 6 was not a day that he has been worried about because "it's not something most Floridians are concerned about."

He said that it was important to hold people accountable for trying to obstruct proceedings or for rioting. However, he also cited a common talking-point about Trump backers: no one has been charged by the federal government with inciting an insurrection.

He said, "I think it will end up being just an politicized Charlie Foxtrot right now." Pelosi and her gang don't have my faith in anything they do. I don't expect the corporate press to provide any useful information. It's going be nauseating.
