Israeli security personnel carry a dead body down the steps following an incident in Jerusalem's Old City November 21, 2021.
  • One Palestinian man was shot to death in Israel by a gunman and four other people were injured.
  • Eliyahu David Kay (26), a tour guide for the Western Wall, was the man who died.
  • Hamas claimed the responsibility for the shooting and called it a "heroic opera."

Before being shot by Israeli police, a Hamas gunman murdered a recent immigrant from Israel in Jerusalem's Old City.

According to the Jerusalem Post, the attack also left two civilians and two officers with injuries. Two female officers of the police arrived on the scene and opened fire upon the attacker.

According to the New York Times, the attack occurred shortly after 9 a.m. near a sacred location referred to by Jews as Temple Mount and Muslims as the Noble Sanctuary or Aqsa Mosque.

According to Reuters, Hamas identified Fadi Abu Khkhaidem as the shooter. He is a Palestinian 42-year old from East Jerusalem.

According to the Times of Israel, Eliyahu David Kay (26-year-old South African immigrant) was the victim. He worked as a tour guide at Jerusalem's Western Wall.

Omer Bar-Lev, the Internal Security Minister, stated that the gunman "moved through the alleyways and fired quite some shots." The alley was empty, which is good because otherwise - God forbid - there would be more casualties," according to the BBC report.

This shooting comes four days after an incident in Jerusalem's Old City, where a 16-year old Palestinian teenager was shot and killed by two Israeli officers.
