It's evident that the Great Resignation continues, even if it is compared to the 4.2million who left their jobs in October.
While the number of open jobs fell in November, the number of Americans quitting their jobs was at an all-time high. This shows that the Great Resignation is not slowing down.
According to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey or JOLTS data released Tuesday by the Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the US saw a decrease in open positions to 10.6 millions in November. Accommodation and food services saw the largest drop in job openings with 261,000 fewer opportunities. Federal government and finance sectors saw slight increases in available jobs.
The number of Americans quitting their jobs in November was not slowing down. The record-breaking number of Americans quitting their jobs reached 4.5 million. This was despite the fact that accommodation and food services saw the biggest increase. The pandemic continued to affect health care, with 52,000 more quits than in October. Both sectors have been affected by the continuing labor shortage.
The November data isn’t far from October’s job openings and quits. The number of job openings in the US increased to 11 million in October. Restaurant and hotel industries led the charge with 227,000 more opportunities than September. It was the fourth highest number of quits ever, even though quits fell to 4.2million in the same month.
Many people quit their jobs for a variety of reasons. While some Americans want higher wages, others may not be able to work due to COVID-19 or lack of childcare options. However, it is clear that standards are changing.
Insider recently reported that the Great Resignation has seen millions of Americans join, with Kentucky workers at its epicenter. Some Kentuckians quit their jobs due to stress, lack of childcare, health issues, and systemic inequality.
These reasons are also contributing to the national labor shortage. Businesses are finding it difficult to hire workers because Americans aren't returning to work. The US added 210,000 jobs to its labor market in November. This is a significant drop from the 550,000 jobs economists had predicted.
