  • According to Mark Meadows' book, Trump threatened to destroy an Afghan village in a phone call with a Taliban negotiator.
  • Intentionally killing civilians constitutes a war crime.
  • Trump's Taliban negotiator is now Afghanistan's deputy prime minister.

According to Mark Meadows, a former White House chief-of-staff, Trump threatened to destroy the hometown of the Taliban negotiator if the militant Islamist group threatened Americans and US interests during a call in 2020.

At the time, the Trump administration was involved in negotiations with Taliban. These talks led to a Doha agreement (signed in February 2020) that would allow US troops to leave Afghanistan.

"'Before this withdrawal is started,' Trump stated, "I want to be clear. Meadows wrote that Trump will strike America with a force unlike any other if there is anything that goes against America's interests or Americans.

Meadows remembered Trump's words to Meadows: "And your village Mullah?" It's there. We know it's in the Weetmak Village. You can't even touch a single American. That will be the first thing I destroy. I won't hesitate."

A strike ordered by a world leader knowing it would kill civilians or with the intention of targeting civilians could be considered a war crime.

The civilian victims of US airstrikes in Afghanistan were often killed during the conflict. Trump's 2017 relaxation of the rules for strikes saw civilian casualties rise and he was especially guilty.

Trump has threatened to commit war crimes in his past. He stated that the US military would attack Iranian cultural sites if Iran retaliated against it for assassinating Maj. Gen. Qassim Sulmani, one of its most prominent generals.

Meadows stated that the president was talking to Mullah Abdul Ghani, a Taliban cofounder who was freed from a Pakistani prison at Trump's request in 2018. Baradar was appointed deputy prime minister of the interim government after the Taliban regained control over Afghanistan in August.

After a chaotic evacuation, the last US troops left Afghanistan in August.

Bipartisan criticism of President Joe Biden's handling of the withdrawal came from both the Taliban takeover and an ISIS-K terrorist attack on the Kabul Airport that resulted in the deaths 13 US military personnel and 170 Afghans. The Biden administration mistakenly thought that an aid worker was an ISIS-K militant, and ordered a drone attack that killed 10 Afghan civilians including seven children.

Divergent opinions exist about who is responsible for the pullout.

Trump's deal with the Taliban was the key to Afghanistan's withdrawal. Much has been said about the Doha Agreement. H.R. H.R.

"This collapse is due to the 2020 capitulation agreement. The Taliban didn't defeat us. McMaster stated that we defeated ourselves.

Biden mostly adhered to the terms and conditions of the Trump-era deal, but he did delay the deadline for pulling out by several months. Biden was particularly criticised for leaving behind Afghan allies and Americans after the last US troops left. Since then, there have been ongoing efforts to get people out.

Meadows' book is deeply critical of Biden's withdrawal handling and claims that Trump would have done a better job. Former White House chief of staff, Meadows suggested that Biden should resign in protest at the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Biden defended the withdrawal, arguing that the US should end the war in Afghanistan. It lasted for 20 years.

Biden stated in an August 31 speech that he refused to send another generation to fight a conflict that should have ended years ago. "I wasn't going to prolong this forever war."
