"You know, historically, the runner up is almost always the next nominated."
In an interview with The Truth Gazette (a conservative website and YouTube channel), Ted Cruz, the Republican Senator from Texas, stated that he will run again for president, even though he is not officially declared.
Cruz shared fond memories of his 2016 presidential bid with Brilyn Hollyhand (15 years old), while speaking to the Gazette founder.
"Absolutely. Cruz responded in a heartbeat when Cruz was asked if he would consider another run for Oval Office. "You know, it was the best time I've ever had in all my life. It was a very crowded field. There were 17 candidates, which was a strong field.
Cruz cited the past Presidents Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, and former GOP nominees John McCain, and said that history was on his side if he runs in 2024.
Cruz stated, "You know, there's an historical reason why the runner up is almost always the next nomination," citing "a huge base" of support.
Robin Bravender, Insider's reporter in September, reported that Cruz had been looking at a second presidential bid and has largely kept a loyal staff who could help him get one.
Cruz will also be up for reelection to his Senate seat in 2024.
The senator was optimistic about his 2016 campaign, but the campaign cost his family.
Trump, a former President, insulted Cruz's spouse over her looks and threatened "spill the beans," about an unspecified allegation. Trump also accused Cruz's father of the assassination John F. Kennedy. This became a petty feud between them right through to the Republican National Convention. Cruz didn't endorse Trump's speech.
Cruz stated that it was difficult to get offended at Trump's wife Heidi during the 2016 campaign. "I don’t get mad often but if I mess with my wife, or if my children are in trouble, it will be every time. Donald, you are a cowardly snivel and Heidi should be left alone.
